Charles Augustus Lindbergh, the third child of Swedish immigrants Carl and Evangeline, was born on February 4, , in Detroit, Michigan. His father was a congressman and pacifist who opposed the United States' involvement in World War I, while his mother was a chemistry teacher. Due to his parents' divorce, Charles attended numerous schools during his childhood and adolescence, ranging from Washington, D.C., to California.
